The ATEN Professional Online UPS is an exceptional and innovative electrical apparatus that provides emergency power to a load when the input power source, or the main one, fails. The basic technology of an online UPS is the same as in a standby or line-interactive UPS, however, the ATEN Professional Online UPS provides a much greater current of AC-to-DC battery-charger / rectifier where the rectifier and inverter are designed to run continuously with improved cooling systems.
In all our years of working with computers, we’ve found the vast majority of hardware failures can be directly attributed to the stress hardware components experience during the shut-down and startup process, especially if power surges or blackouts are involved. With severe weather, the aging electrical grid, and hazards lurk inside users' own walls, their equipment is under constant attack from power problems. Even a brief loss of power, sags, or a momentary surge can ruin users' equipment and destroy irreplaceable data. Desktop computers don’t have batteries built-in like laptops do. If users are working on a desktop during a power outage, the system would come to an immediate halt. Not only would users lose their work, but the process imposes unnecessary stress on their machine.
If a UPS is present and a power loss occurs, the batteries in the UPS would keep the power steady and unchanged. The ATEN Professional Online UPS adjusts incoming AC power, provides battery backup to pass through most outages, and saves open files automatically. When power is restored, the UPS begins recharging its batteries.
The Online UPS unit continuously filters wall power through the battery system. Since the attached electronics run completely off the battery (that are always topped off by the external power supply), there is never a single millisecond of power interruption when there is power loss or voltage regulation issues. The Online UPS unit thus acts as an electronic firewall between users' devices and the outside world by stabilizing all the electricity to which users' devices are exposed.
The UPS has one USB port and one serial port that allow connection and communication between the UPS and the connected computer. Power management software installed on the connected computer(s) gives IT professionals the tools they need to easily monitor and manage their backup power. This advanced software allows users to access vital UPS battery conditions, load levels, and runtime information as well as provide unattended shut down of network computers and virtual machines connected to a battery backup during a power event.
The ATEN Professional Online UPS offers a different way to access detailed UPS settings and information with an LCD screen. The illuminated LCD screen displays input voltage, battery capacity, and more, and includes a three-button configuration interface and audible alarms for different modes of operation.
Note: When any battery pack, provided or purchased separately, is not in use, please recharge it for 4 ~ 6 hours every 3 ~ 6 months.

Stay always online and prevent data loss As soon as the power fails, an APC Smart-UPS immediately supplies emergency power to all connected equipment. Because an APC UPS does this automatically, you prevent unwanted failure of, for example, a PC, server or switch. With the free APC PowerChute software, you can even have critical IT hardware shut down automatically and in a controlled manner when the UPS battery is almost empty. This prevents data loss, downtime and physical damage to hardware.
Extend the runtime You can easily increase the number of minutes that the APC SMX UPS can independently supply emergency power by connecting external battery packs (SMX48RMBP2U). A runtime of several hours is even possible.
Safety In addition, a Smart-UPS protects connected devices against peak voltage caused by lightning, among other things. This APC emergency power supply is ideally suited for (small) business use.
Network Management Card If you connect the UPS directly to your network via the optional APC Network Management Card (AP9640/AP9641), it can be easily managed remotely via SNMP or our remote management software Ecostruxure IT Expert (SFTWES1-DIGI). You can also automatically send a shutdown signal via the network to multiple physical and/or virtual servers. By means of the APC PowerChute Network Shutdown Software belonging to the network card, it is even possible to differentiate between the shutdown moment and the order in which this happens.
Easy to use This APC Smart-UPS SMX is easy to operate thanks to the LCD screen.
Rack/tower convertible The APC Smart-UPS SMX is rack/tower convertible. Because both the feet and the front post rack brackets are included, you can mount it in a rack (2U) or place it upright. If you prefer to mount it on all four rack uprights, order the optional SU032A.
Extend the lifespan The internal battery cartridge (APCRBC116) can be replaced easily, safely and independently by the user. This without having to switch off the APC SMX1000I or connected equipment. This allows you to easily and cheaply extend the lifespan of the APC Smart-UPS and your equipment will always remain online.
Warranty extension The factory warranty of the SMX1000I is 3 years, with the exception of the battery cartridge, which has a factory warranty of 2 years. Both are extended by 3 years to 6 and 5 years respectively with the APC service pack (WBEXTWAR3YR-SP-02).
Switched Outlet Groups: Remote reboot and phased start-up Thanks to the Switched Outlet Groups, it is possible to configure a phased/delayed power-on per UPS outlet group. This reduces the peak load on the UPS and brings it closer to the constant load, which can limit oversizing of the UPS.
It is also possible to reset a group of multiple UPS outlets and the equipment connected to them. If a network card (ap9640) is used in combination with Ecostruxure IT Expert (SFTWES1-DIGI), this can even be done remotely.
You can also switch off non-critical loads; this extends the runtime for critical equipment.
This APC Smart-UPS is designed for IT managers or network administrators to maintain business uptime, data transfer and continuity during prolonged power outages. The 1000VA line interactive 2U rack/tower UPS provides pure sine wave power to support critical electronics during power disruptions. The SMX comes with IEC 320 C14 input, 8x IEC 320 C13 outlets, and 2x IEC jumper cables. The UPS has a SmartSlot for optional Network Management Card that enables graceful shutdown of physical servers, virtual machines & HCI Clusters via PowerChute Network Shutdown. It comes with IEC 320 C14 input, 8x IEC 320 C13 outlets, and 2x IEC jumper cables. The UPS has a 3-year warranty, and the built-in lead-acid battery has a 2-year warranty. This uninterrupted power supply can connect to EcoStruxure IT or third-party centralized management platforms. The SMX UPS has a 3-year warranty, and the built-in lead-acid battery has a 2-year warranty. This is compatible with dedicated user-replaceable battery, and the APC replacement battery cartridge helps restore UPS performance to the original specifications. The Smart-UPS comes with a pair of tower-mounting stabilizing feet and rack-mounting brackets. The 2 switchable outlet groups allow more granular management of the power supplied to your devices. The Emergency Power Off feature enables the UPS to remotely shutdown during emergencies.
